Imagine a city that does not get in the way - a city that serves its inhabitants and not threaten them. I am not talking about the built environment alone, but also the community and way the community is 'designed'.
Every community is designed, knowingly or unknowingly. We, the citizens of our city, collectively make countless decisions each day, decisions that lay the fabric of our community and the physical environment that we inhabit. We are the designers of our cities.
But most of this 'designing' is not conscious, deliberate. Its automatic, impulsive, instinctive, unthoughtful. So what do we do? Of course, we ought to improve things. But imagine... imagine if you could help build a new city. How would you want to design in? What would you build and what would you not build?
